Methodology

While standard methodologies and techniques are helpful, this is never a cookie-cutter process and each engagement is customised for each customer and their unique needs. For Digital Business Transformation projects I prefer to adapt the THRIVE framework created by Rob Llewelyn to the specific needs of each engagement and organisation.
The Key Principles of THRIVE Framework are:
Transformation: Explore how transformation is about creating a new future, without the constraints of the past while change simply creates a better version of the past. Many other disciplines are all needed to deliver a transformation like change management, portfolio management, benefits realization management, program and project management, technology management, risk management and governance management to name a few.
Holistic: Transformation requires a fundamental shift in multiple components of an organisation. Governance, mindsets, business models, innovation, digital use cases, etc. THRIVE equips you to facilitate a holistic approach to transformation, and avoid the blinkered and siloed approaches that many take.
Response: Helping organisations respond strategically to the opportunities and threats they are presented with - both inside their organisation, and externally in the market. And how to encourage appropriate leadership mindsets, workforce culture and capabilities required to transform strategy into reality.
Innovation: While Cloud, Mobile, the Internet of Things and Robotics, etc. can bring about the most rewarding business transformation when used strategically, only through the innovative convergence of digital technologies can companies truly transform through new business models and ways of working.
Value: Transformation must create value, and so value needs to be measured, which means transformation leaders need to ensure they are gathering the right data to measure both the tangible and intangible value of digital business transformation, and reporting it to executives.
Enterprise: We work on how transformation is achieved by encouraging, embracing and educating people from across the enterprise and building a collaborative culture of new capabilities and mindsets. Opportunities to upgrade workforce capabilities need to be identified and people made to feel safe and comfortable about innovation, success and failure.

My mission is to create relationships, not transactions and my promise is that I'll be there, as questions or issues arise, every step of the way until we get to the desired outcome.  

What Problems do I solve ?

When helping businesses with Digital Transformation and emerging Technology Consulting I often see organisations chasing the resolution of symptoms rather than the real underlying problems.  The importance of a strong discovery phase using appropriate discovery techniques and maturity assessments helps create a strong shared future vision and understanding for the business to rally around for the delivery of a holistic digital business transformation strategy.  This early work is the key to deliver real speed to value in the longer-term rather than chasing causation shadows.  

Other Engagements that are not holistic strategic Digital Business Transformation Initiatives usually revolve around a few tactical and limited strategic focal areas:

  1. Strategy related - digital transformation (DX) business strategy, new target operating model (TOM) development, technology disruption defence or attack strategy and risk or incident management (business or technology)
  2. Leadership and culture -  focused on Digital Transformation management, business models, organisational structures to support transformation, governance, benefits realisation, Change management and customer experience (CX) management
  3. Revenue or growth-related - the main focus area here is the customer journey, "go-to-market"(GtM)  strategy or product strategy, mergers and acquisition-related growth, pricing strategies and digital marketing
  4. Operational related - challenges related to technology management, process management, portfolio management, program management and governance. A focus on process optimization, leveraging technology to deliver expense reduction (automation, process review, RPA, digital CX, migration to cloud strategies), organisational re-structuring, product offering pivots or digitisation, customer service redesigns and the list goes on.
  5. Execution related - PMO issues, project execution issues or projects that require a "get well" program or challenges with hybrid delivery models of agile and waterfall.
  6. Innovation related - work related to design thinking, product innovation areas, leveraging emerging technology to drive innovation or M&A innovation strategies
